Philosophy, Politics and Economics

Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) brings together some of the most important approaches to understanding the world around us, developing skills useful for a whole range of careers and activities.

PPE is a buoyant subject at LMH. There are a number of Fellows and Tutors in each of the three sides of the school, as well as the IKEA Research Fellow in International Relations, who are engaged in cutting edge research at the forefront of their fields.  This makes it possible for students to receive a broad range of tuition and support from within the College, although undergraduates will also have the opportunity to receive specialised tuition from experts in other colleges, as is the norm across the University.

Thanks to generous support from a donor, LMH is pleased to offer the 150th Anniversary Bursary in PPE. From autumn 2027, up to one eligible PPE undergraduate per cohort will be awarded a non-repayable grant of up to £2,000 per year. This financial support is intended to support recipients with living costs, easing financial pressures and allowing them to focus on their studies and the wider opportunities available at Oxford. The award can be held alongside one of the University of Oxford’s bursaries for students from lower-income households. 

Eligibility and Selection Process 

The first bursary will be available to an eligible first-year student with Home fee status joining the PPE programme at LMH in autumn 2027.  

The selection will be made by LMH’s PPE Tutors, with support from the Senior Tutor, taking into account the admissions application material, admissions interviews and individual household information as provided through the PPE cohort’s student finance applications. In line with the College’s widening access priorities, preference will be given to students from backgrounds and communities currently under-represented at Oxford. The bursary will continue for the duration of the student’s degree, subject to satisfactory academic progress. Up to three PPE Bursaries will be available at any one time.
