History and Politics at LMH

Lady Margaret Hall has a strong tradition of History and Politics. This emerges in the excellent provision for both sides of the degree in the College Library, in our lively History Society and in the comparatively large number of students we admit for History and the various Joint Schools.

Career prospects

LMH joint school historians have gone on to a wide variety of careers in law, media, publishing, teaching, politics, the civil service, and academia.

One of the best things about reading History and Politics is its extraordinary variety. If you want, you can study political theory, philosophy, and quantitative methods alongside the entirety of History in the medieval and modern eras, equipping you with very useful inter-disciplinary skills. The tutors at LMH are exceptionally supportive and tutorials always keep you on your toes. I would recommend this course to anyone.
