LMH alumnus Alexander Kann (English Language and Literature, 1997) is Chief Executive at Together TV, a TV channel that has just won a BAFTA.
The BAFTA was awarded to a short film entitled Our Land, directed by Alexandra Genova and produced as part of Together TV's Diverse Film Fund. It documents two black food growers who are on the search for their own land to launch their farming business in England’s predominantly white agricultural industry.
Alexander Kann said “We’re absolutely delighted to have won a BAFTA for Our Land, which tells a vital story that hasn’t been told before and launches an important new voice in documentary filmmaking in Alexandra Genova. Our Land was one of five Black, British & Breaking Boundaries short documentaries funded and supported by Together TV’s Diverse Film Fund. We launched this fund to give underrepresented narratives and emerging talent a platform. This BAFTA win is a really valuable recognition for this work. As fantastic as this win is, we can’t stop here, which is why we’d like to take this moment to announce our filmmakers for this year’s Diverse Film Fund, continuing our efforts to elevate the diverse voices in Britain today.”
Together TV is the first supporter-owned national TV channel. It aims to help people find inspiration to do good in their lives and communities. You can find out more about the channel on the Together TV website.
Alexander Kann recently participated in a Principal's Conversation at Lady Margaret Hall, and the recording will be available on the LMH YouTube Channel soon.
