Professor Christine Gerrard, Barbara Scott Fellow in English and former Interim Principal of LMH, has been appointed Director of TORCH, the Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities. TORCH is one of the world’s leading centres for interdisciplinary Humanities research. It fosters cross-disciplinary and outward-facing research collaborations between Oxford University’s Humanities researchers and local, national and global partnerships.

Professor Gerrard will take up her new role in the autumn, and says of her appointment:

“I am thrilled to have been appointed as the next Director of TORCH. TORCH is a world-leading interdisciplinary research centre which will soon be part of the new Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, bringing together Oxford’s Humanities Faculties and research hubs in a bold new city-centre site. I hope to expand TORCH’s strategic vision in fields such as environmental and medical Humanities, AI and digital Humanities. I’m hugely excited to be leading the TORCH team into its second decade as it scales up its ambitions for innovative and visionary research collaborations which embody the vital significance of the Humanities to today’s world.”
