Dr Sophie Ratcliffe, LMH Fellow and Tutor, has recently developed a project alongside her colleague Dr Ushashi Dasgupta, that aims to challenge misconceptions about who studies English and the career paths it can lead to. The Telling Our Stories Better project has launched an online gallery of biographies featuring a wide range of Oxford's English alums who have gone on to careers in various fields such as healthcare, law, business, tech, the arts, journalism, and more.

The idea for the project was inspired by a series of portrait photographs at LMH found in the Deneke Hallway. This features some of our prominent alumni who have excelled in variety of different fields and professions.

The Telling Our Stories Better gallery offers an insight into Oxford's English alum community and how many of them have fulfilled their career ambitions. It is aiming to encourage people to think differently about English and where studying it can lead. Through interviews with current students, alums explain how they have navigated career twists and turns, what they took from studying English at Oxford, and what advice they would give current students today.

A physical display of the alum portraits will be created in the English Faculty foyer in early 2022.
