Opportunity has always defined LMH

From our origins as the first Oxford college for women, to the creation of Oxford’s first Foundation Year, we believe all talented students should have the chance to realise their potential.

A group of student ambassadors wearing LMH t-shirts walk together along a tree-lined path on campus. Surrounded by red-brick college buildings and green lawns, they chat and laugh as they make their way through the College grounds.

Together we will keep opening doors

Today, that same pioneering spirit is reflected in our commitment to creating opportunities for students from every background and providing the support they need to thrive at LMH.

Securing long-term funding is essential to ensure these opportunities remain available.

Opportunity for the Future will:

Endow our Outreach programme

Your gift will help talented students to access the opportunities Oxford has to offer.

Our Outreach team works with young people from all backgrounds, raising aspirations and helping remove barriers to higher education.

Building on LMH's leadership in this field, we recently launched the Centre for Research on Outreach and Access in partnership with Oxford's Department of Economics. The Centre will address a gap in understanding about the effectiveness of access programmes and apply these insights to our core outreach activities.

LMH can only continue this transformative work by securing long term funding.

Our goal is to raise £5 million to endow Outreach at LMH and ensure the College remains a place of opportunity for generations to come. Thanks to a generous donor, every gift will be matched 2:1.

“We work with young people from across the country through school visits, Open Days and Subject Taster Days, helping them expand their horizons. This work will be strengthened through the Wayfinder programme, a new sustained contact initiative launched in 2026. We are very grateful to every donor who has supported outreach at LMH."

Endow our Wellbeing support

Your gift will give students the support they need to thrive at LMH.

Many will recognise the stresses of student years – living away from home, adapting to intensive tutorial and examination systems, managing day-to-day responsibilities, navigating the ups and downs of adolescence, and preparing for life beyond university in a competitive jobs market.

A 2022 survey by the mental health charity Student Minds found that 57% of respondents self-reported a mental health issue and 27% said they had a diagnosed mental health condition.

In response to growing need for specialist intervention, in 2022 LMH was proud to be one of the first colleges in Oxford to recruit a professional Head of Wellbeing with the expertise and skills to ensure our students receive the support they need.

The Wellbeing team provides one-to-one and group sessions on topics such as relationships, coping with exams, bereavement, stress and eating disorders. They liaise closely with our Study Skills support team, the Nurse, Chaplain, Student Finance Team and academic colleagues to ensure that our students have the best possible care.

LMH can only continue to provide this support by securing long term funding.

Our goal is to raise £2 million to endow the Wellbeing service at LMH, and secure this vital support for the future. Thanks to a generous donor, every gift will be matched 2:1.

“Your work as Heads of Wellbeing went far beyond guidance – it created the foundation that allowed me not only to cope but to truly thrive at LMH during what happened to be the most mentally challenging year of my life.”

Endow our Student Financial Assistance provision

Your support will help students with limited finances to make the most of their time at LMH.

The cost of living is rising, leaving many students on shoe-string budgets, or wondering if they can even afford to go to university. With government maintenance grants leaving the average Oxford student £2,000 - £8,000 short each year, many are struggling.

In addition to bursarial support, LMH awards donor-funded grants to cover living expenses such as food, rent, academic materials and extracurricular participation. Every year, our Grants Committee awards around £100,000 in student support to undergraduates and graduates.

Our goal is to ensure we have sufficient endowed student funding so that LMH remains a place of opportunity to students from all backgrounds.

Thanks to the generosity of donors to date, we have just £200,000 left to raise.

In addition to providing support through our Financial Assistance Fund, we are interested in speaking to donors who would like to endow an undergraduate bursary. Gifts of at least £200,000 will provide transformative financial support to a student in need each year in perpetuity. Please contact Anna Bates, Director of Development on: development.director@lmh.ox.ac.uk to find out more.

“Difficult family circumstances mean that it’s tricky to return home for the vacations. The Financial Assistance Fund covered the cost of food and enabled me to remain at LMH to focus on my studies.”
