Excellence lies at the heart of our mission

Nowhere is this more evident than in our personalised tutorial system. Great teaching changes everything.

Our academics work closely with the brightest students from around the world, sparking intellectual curiosity, encouraging open debate, and fostering independent thinking.

An LMH Fellow leads a small-group tutorial discussion around a table, speaking to students seated with notebooks and laptops in a bright study room. The students listen attentively.

Now is the time to protect it

UK tuition fees cover only a fraction of the true cost of an Oxford tutorial-based education, and the College receives no public funding for teaching.

Philanthropic support is essential to sustain our teaching and research, and to ensure that LMH remains a centre of academic excellence and innovation for future generations.

Excellence for the Future will:

Endow our Tutorial Fellowships

The tutorial system is central to an LMH education, but it is also extremely expensive. UK tuition fees cover less than 40% of the true cost, and colleges must make up the shortfall.

It would cost over £40 million to endow all Tutorial Fellowships at LMH. Thanks to the generosity of donors over the last 150 years, almost half of this funding has already been secured.

Our goal is to fully endow our Tutorial Fellowships and secure the precious tutorial system at LMH in perpetuity.

Recent generous gifts have enabled us to endow:

  • The Gould Watson Fellowship in Physics
  • The Chen Starverse Fellowship in Computer Science
  • A Fellowship in Engineering

We have also received significant support for other subjects, including Law, Classics and PPE.

Whether directed to a specific subject or to the tutorial system more broadly, a gift towards the endowment of a Tutorial Fellowship will ensure that critical thinking, respectful debate and confident in-person interaction remain at the forefront of an LMH education.

If you value the impact of your tutorials, please help us secure this treasured system for future generations.

Establish an LMH Fellows' Research Fund

A gift to the Fellows' Research Fund is an investment in discovery, innovation and academic excellence across a wide range of disciplines.

At LMH, our Fellows are advancing knowledge across a remarkable range of fields, from cancer gene identification and brain degeneration to dark matter and societal conflict.

Many Fellows rely on additional support to further their research. Whilst some secure external funding, LMH cannot match the level of research investment available at better-endowed institutions, limiting our ability to support promising ideas and projects.

Our goal is to raise £2 million to establish a permanent Fellows' Research Fund, to support ambitious research across the College.

“Research in AI, machine learning, and data science is evolving at an unprecedented speed. A dedicated research fund would be invaluable and enable LMH to stay at the forefront of the AI revolution.”

“Together, my students and I challenge assumptions and deepen our understanding through the rigorous, evidence-based approach that defines Oxford’s research-led education. In an era of misinformation, our tutorial system is more essential than ever to shape critical thinkers who can make the world a better place.”
