For the first lecture in the Oxford Summer Programme's new LMH Summer Lecture series, J. R. R. Tolkien Professor of English Language and Literature, Professor Marion Turner, will speak about 'Oxford in Literature'.

Oxford is a uniquely literary city. It has inspired many writers across time, from Geoffrey Chaucer to J.R.R. Tolkien, W.H. Auden to A.E. Stallings, C.S. Lewis to Philip Pullman, R.F. Kuang to Lewis Carroll. Poets, novelists, and fantasy writers alike have reimagined its buildings, gardens, and culture, and have written their masterpieces while living in the city. In this lecture, we will look at a range of writings that are rooted in Oxford - and there will be tips on where to go to see the places that animate Oxford-based books and poems.

All members of the LMH community are warmly invited to come along to this lecture, which will be part of an ongoing series throughout the summer.

If you have any questions about the lectures, please contact: emily.guerry@lmh.ox.ac.uk.
