What do you enjoy the most about LMH?

I love the gardens. Going for sunset walks by the river is always so peaceful and this year I’ve had a fox den outside my window, so I’ve been able to watch the fox cubs come out and play in the evenings. I also love the fact that everyone has access to a kitchen near their room which a lot of my friends at other colleges don’t as it has made cooking for myself so much easier. I also enjoy the walk through Uni parks to lectures in the morning especially in the spring when all the crocuses bloom. I also genuinely think LMH formal has the nicest food out of any formals I’ve been to in Oxford and are so good at accommodating dietary requirements.

What has studying at Oxford been like so far?

It has been intense, but I’ve genuinely enjoyed it. I’ve also found balancing blues sport with my degree very achievable and am now club captain for cross country which I really enjoy. Taking part in varsity against Cambridge has been one of the highlights of my degree as it’s such a unique experience – there's nothing quite like it. I’ve also met a lot of people who I’m sure will be friends for life and there’s so much to do in Oxford that whenever I’m not studying or running I always find something fun to do.

What do you enjoy most about your course?

In 2nd and 3rd year biology you are allowed to pick your tutorial topics which has been amazing because I get to choose a topic I am genuinely interested in to learn about every week. I also went on a field course to Copeland Island off the coast of Northern Ireland last summer where we learnt about avian ecology particularly focusing on Manx Shearwaters which was a really cool experience. We got to learn a lot about what it’s like doing remote fieldwork as well as handling birds and analysing GPS data.

What’s your best advice for a prospective applicant?

Don’t be scared to apply! I almost didn’t apply because I thought I wouldn’t get in but at the end of the day what’s the worst that can happen? The best that can happen is you get to come to Oxford. Think about what’s important to you in a college – for me it was gardens and kitchens rather than just picking the really famous ones. Once you’re here I’d also say get involved with as many clubs and societies as possible as this is what has really made my uni experience and allows you to meet people outside of your degree.
