Domestic Bursar

Lady Margaret Hall, a constituent college of the University of Oxford, and one known for its welcoming, stimulating and inclusive community, is looking to appoint a Domestic Bursar. 

Founded in 1878, the College is co-educational and a mixed college, admitting both undergraduates and graduates.  It combines an attractive culture with consistently high academic standards. With over 800 students, the College is situated in a picturesque site with beautiful gardens, historic halls, and modern facilities, next to the University Parks and the River Cherwell.

The Domestic Bursar will be a senior member of the College’s support staff, responsible for the leadership, management and smooth operations of non-academic domestic services. The role also includes generating commercial income, maintaining and refurbishing the buildings and gardens, as well as the financial and compliance management of their departments.

The Domestic Bursar is accountable for approximately 100 staff members and will foster a positive, supportive team environment aligned with the College’s Investors in People Gold standard, while ensuring operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Strong candidates will have proven senior management experience in a complex organisation, such as hospitality, higher education, or facilities management. The successful candidate will have excellent relationship-building skills and will know how to empower and value staff. They will be highly adaptable and capable of overseeing a wide range of diverse activities while maintaining effective priorities. A familiarity with the University of Oxford’s collegiate system is desirable but not essential.
