Economics Lecturer Ruth Tarrant said of the trip:
"In addition to finding quirky notes and coins with plenty of history and intrigue behind them, we discovered a very cute and very old piggybank from Indonesia, plenty of Churchill memorabilia, and learned about the interaction between money, power and culture. We explored how the shapes and patterns of coins have changed over time - partly in response to fraud, partly practicality, and partly as governments became more trustworthy. Students unleashed their inner child, making the most of the interactive exhibits and getting stuck into an old fashioned game of Shove Ha'penny.
"If you want to find out more about that pirate-classic 'Pieces of Eight' or why monarch's heads face to the side rather than face on, we highly recommend a trip to this free exhibition. We rounded up our reflections with an ice cream in G&Ds on our way back to college (arguably a bit superfluous but good to have the chance to talk through the insightful exhibits)."
