What do you enjoy the most about LMH?
So much! The gardens have been such a joy in the spring and summer, being able to work, eat and socialise in them is one of the things that makes LMH so unique among other colleges. The community here is also wonderful; everyone is friendly and approachable, tutors, students and staff alike.
What has studying at Oxford been like so far?
At first it felt like a big step up from A Levels, and the imposter syndrome did sneak it. There was a lot of trial and error in learning about to make notes in lectures, prepare for tutorials and writing a good essay. Overtime I found a structure that worked for me, and learning how to ask for help was a key step in that. I love the tutorial system here, as I can delve deep into a topic with tutors but also clarify anything I don’t understand. There is a strong sense of community around studying as well, my friends and I often make working a social thing, trying out new libraries, as well as making strong friends on my course.
What do you enjoy most about your course?
We’re quite a small cohort (around 50), and so we all know each other, which is lovely, but we also share lectures with other courses, so we meet lots of people that way. The variety in the content we cover is great, from neuroscience to biochemistry to psychology. Combining lectures, tutorials, and labs, we learn in a variety of media. Labs are especially fun, as we combine knowledge from the lectures and are very interactive. Labs range from biochemistry-style ones, trying out medical equipment and studying anatomy in the dissection room.
What’s your best advice for a prospective applicant?
Enjoy the experience of applying; it is so unique compared to other university applications. I think also focus on what you find interesting, and not what you think the tutors would find interesting. Delve down the rabbit holes of what piques your interest.
