Welcoming Offer-Holders to LMH

On Saturday 7th March, we warmly welcomed LMH offer-holders along with their families and supporters for our annual Undergraduate Offer-Holder Day. The event brought together students who received offers in January to study at LMH next academic year, giving them the chance to get to know the College, meet others in their cohort, and get a clearer sense of what studying at LMH might be like.

The day began in the Dining Hall with a welcome from our Principal, Professor Christine Gerrard, and English Fellow Dr Ben Higgins, who congratulated offer-holders on all they had achieved so far and offered words of encouragement for the months ahead.

The rest of the day was focused on giving offer-holders and their supporters the chance to get to know LMH a little better. Offer-holders met tutors and current students from their subject areas, giving them the opportunity to ask questions and understand how their subject is taught. They also attended a study skill session, intended to help them prepare for the transition to university life. For some, it was their first time visiting the College, and they enjoyed guided tours of LMH, exploring the grounds and getting a feel for the facilities and spaces on offer.

Offer-holders also had the chance to meet the staff who help support students day-to-day at LMH. After lunch in Hall, they had time to speak with members of our study skills, disability support, accommodation, student financial support and admissions teams, as well as the College Chaplain, all of whom were on hand to answer questions and offer reassurance. The College Librarian was also there – alongside a popular guest, the library cat Isambard, who proved to be a firm favourite with visitors.

Parents and supporters were very much part of the day, attending a dedicated information session led by our Access and Outreach Officer Vicky. The day closed with more time for informal conversations and final questions.

We were delighted to receive positive feedback from both offer-holders and their families, and we’re very grateful to everyone who joined us on the day. We wish all our offer-holders the very best of luck in their upcoming exams and hope to welcome many of them back to LMH in the autumn.
