Inaugural Katie Richards Prize for Volunteering Excellence Open for Entries

The Katie Richards Prize for Volunteering Excellence awards £350 per year to an undergraduate or a graduate student at LMH who has demonstrated exceptional dedication to volunteering and social impact.

About the Prize

Lady Margaret Hall has long upheld a tradition of philanthropy, justice and social progress, exemplified since its inception by its dedication to women’s education, humanitarian work of many members, and its historic association with the LMH Settlement. The prize celebrates students who have contributed meaningfully to volunteer initiatives, fostering an ethos of service and leadership, inspiring future generations to engage in philanthropy and social responsibility.

How to Apply

To apply for the prize, please fill out the online form to tell us about your charity work by 6pm on Monday 27 April 2026 (1st week of Trinity Term).

The prize is open to undergraduate and graduate students at LMH only.

You will need to supply the following:

  • A written account of your volunteering work (500 words maximum): dates of involvement, type of volunteering work, name(s) of supervisor(s), what you have learned from this experience.
  • A reference from a member of the charity, association, entity within which you volunteered.

Applications will be reviewed by a panel composed of the Chaplain, the Dean, the Senior Tutor, two tutorial Fellows.

The winner will be announced at the Charity Formal in Trinity Term.
