Adlington Chemistry Bursary Launches to Support Future LMH Undergraduates

Lady Margaret Hall is delighted to announce the launch of the Adlington Chemistry Bursary, a new donor-funded endowed award that will provide transformative financial support to future Chemistry undergraduates.

Each year, the Adlington Chemistry Bursary recipient will receive a non-repayable grant of £6,000 to help meet living costs throughout the course of their degree. This support will ease financial pressures, allowing the student to focus fully on their studies and to take advantage of the many opportunities that College and University life have to offer. The award can also be held alongside one of the University of Oxford’s bursaries for students from lower-income households.

The first bursary will be available to an eligible first-year Home student joining the MChem programme at LMH in autumn 2026. Preference will be given to candidates who select LMH as the first-choice college in their UCAS application. The selection will be made by LMH’s Chemistry Tutors, with support from the Senior Tutor, and will be based on academic potential, performance at interview, and household financial information. In line with the College’s widening access priorities, preference will be given to students from backgrounds and communities currently under-represented at Oxford. The bursary will continue for the duration of the student’s degree, subject to satisfactory academic progress. A single Adlington Bursary will be available at any one time.

This award, named in recognition of the significant contribution of former Chemistry Tutor Professor Emeritus Rob Adlington, has been endowed in perpetuity and will benefit generations of LMH chemists to come. We are immensely grateful for the vision and generosity of the LMH alumnus who has made the Adlington Chemistry Bursary possible.

If applicants considering applying to study Chemistry at LMH during the 2025-26 admissions round have any questions about this bursary, please get in touch with our Academic Office team.
