What do you enjoy the most about LMH?

I love the gardens, living in Scotland means I am used to lots of green space, so the beautiful gardens at LMH remind me of home! Also, in the summer we can use our own punts as well as the tennis courts and football pitches. The community at LMH is incredibly welcoming. This past year the dining hall staff were counting down my exams every day when I came into breakfast!

What has studying at Oxford been like so far?

It has been a wonderful experience. Though the work can be demanding, the opportunity to regularly discuss the classical world with leading experts is incredible. I have also loved taking part in many societies such as rowing, tennis, clay pigeon shooting, and of course, Caledonian society! There are so many societies to take advantage of during your time at university.

What do you enjoy most about your course?

I particularly enjoy the multitude of options Classics allows you to study. This has meant I am able to combine my love of oratory in the Roman Republic as well as my interest in Ancient Greek philosophy into one degree!

What’s your best advice for a prospective applicant?

Choose texts which you are genuinely passionate about. There are no texts that you are expected to read before your interview, so it’s far better to choose those which you can talk about confidently and enthusiastically. Also try to demonstrate a genuine interest in language learning, by attending a language course or similar. Classics revolves around learning an ancient language, so interest in this area is crucial.
