What do you enjoy the most about LMH?

I really love all of the facilities LMH has. Although the college is slightly further out of town than most other colleges, the walk/cycle to and from lectures, classes etc is really peaceful and pretty, especially when you go through University Parks! LMH also has amazing facilities, unlike most other colleges – our tennis courts are free to use at any time, our library is amazingly well-stocked and the punt house being in our gardens is very convenient!

What has studying at Oxford been like so far?

I have really loved studying at Oxford so far. I find all of my tutorials fascinating, with the essay topics being genuinely challenging but still manageable. The work pressure combined with the huge variety of options for activities, societies & general college life happening around you makes the terms feel so lively – there’s really never a dull moment!

What do you enjoy most about your course?

For the second half of my degree I was able to choose 8 modules out of about 80, which really enabled me to focus in on what I’m interested in. I love how classics can incorporate parts of so many other degrees – art, philosophy, literature, history etc. Different areas of classics also really improve your ability to think in different ways. For example, doing both a history and philosophy option last term challenged me in very different ways and their differences & overlaps were interesting to see.

What’s your best advice for a prospective applicant?

My best advice would be to showcase genuine academic curiosity; exploring around your subject of choice through reading, activities, films etc is really helpful at deepening your understanding of a subject and showing passion!
