Dr Olivier Lennon

I undertook my undergraduate studies in Physics with Theoretical Physics at Imperial College London, before completing my DPhil in Theoretical Particle Physics in Oxford (St John's College). My work focussed on model building and phenomenology of theories beyond-the-Standard-Model. To me, the goal of physics is understanding the Universe at its most fundamental level, be it at the scale of individual particles or the cosmos. The beauty of physics is collecting as many known phenomena as possible into a single mathematical framework, and then using this model to predict new results.

I was fortunate enough to have opportunities to teach alongside my studies. I enjoy seeing the spark in a student that comes with understanding advanced topics and I find it particularly rewarding to have been a part of that process. I also find great importance in supporting students through what can be a challenging time in their lives.

After my studies, I pivoted to teaching full-time. Aside from my role at Lady Margaret Hall, I currently hold a Stipendiary Lectureship in Physics at St Catherine's College. I have previously held a Stipendiary Lectureship at Trinity College, and was a College Tutor at Lincoln College.

I believe that we become better teachers through experiencing a diverse range of students. To that end, I began my role as the Waynflete Academic in Physics and Engineering at Magdalen College School in 2025. Adapting my approach to the students in front of me is a challenge I enjoy, and look forward to applying that to my role at Lady Margaret Hall.

This academic year, I will be teaching papers P1 and A1 (both Mathematical Methods) to students of Engineering.
