Ian McFarlane

I completed my MMath at Oxford in 2017, before working in the actuarial sector for four years. I returned to academia in 2021, starting a DPhil in mathematical biology supervised by Helen Byrne, Ruth Baker and Francesco Boccellato.

My research focuses on mathematical modelling of cells in human gastric glands (the lining of the stomach) to understand how the interactions of cells maintains a healthy stomach, and what goes wrong in these systems to cause the onset of gastric cancer.
