Courses available

Visiting Students in Biology normally take a major (8 tutorials) and a minor (4 tutorials) each term.  The courses offered are listed below.  It is recommended that, in addition to tutorials, students attend University lectures which are relevant to the major and minor subjects they are studying.  Advice and guidance will be provided on which lectures to attend depending on students current knowledge and background.

The following courses are available, and can be mixed to provide a bespoke set of tutorials depending on a student's interests:

  • Genetics
  • Cell Biology
  • Regenerative Biology
  • Genome Evolution
  • Genomics
  • Molecular Biology
  • Molecular Evolution
  • Molecular Genetics

Students needs to have the requisite background, noting that the courses offered in Oxford are typically very rigorous. The content of tutorials will be matched to a student's current levels of knowledge (beginner through to expert) and one of the main goals will be to help develop communication and writing styles for different audiences (members of the public through to other scientists).
