All are welcome to join us for a special In Conversation event to celebrate the publication of LMH alumna Juliet Campbell’s memoir, Playing Britannia: How I Became Her Excellency. Juliet will speak with the Principal about her life and career, looking back on her time in the British Diplomatic Service and the six years she spent as Mistress of Girton College in Cambridge. The event will be followed by a drinks reception in the Monson Room.

Juliet Campbell was one of the first women to make a career in the British Diplomatic Service, and first of the pioneering women Ambassadors to write a memoir. Specialising in European Affairs for much of her career, both in London and abroad, she also served in Thailand, Laos and Indonesia. On leaving the Diplomatic Service Juliet became Mistress of Girton College, Cambridge, providing her with another new world to explore.

Her lively memoir draws on diaries and letters to her parents, which are full of observation, analysis and colourful – often comic – detail. A picture emerges of a woman focussed not only on her career, but on friends, family and the people among whom she found herself, and of a life of hard work leavened with a great deal of fun.

All proceeds from the sale of this book will go to Girton College.

The event is free to attend, and you can book your ticket via the link below.
