Classification


Books are classified according to their subject, The system used at LMH is the Dewey Decimal System. The books are arranged on the shelves in a numerical sequence, starting at 100 on the left hand side as you enter the door on the first floor.

The sequence of numbers continues all around the room, with the following exceptions; languages and literature in the gallery (400s, and 800s); the sciences (500 and 600s), and music, geography and travel, archaeology and biography (780-799, 900-929) on the ground floor. The law section has its own classification system.
