Special issue of the Brown Book

04 December 2009

The Brown Book is an annual Spring College publication for alumni/ae, coordinated and produced by the LMHA Committee, a group of volunteer alumnae. This Commemorative Edition is a supplement the purpose of which is to distribute more widely the work of several experts of Lady Margaret Beaufort who were invited over the course of 2009 to present their research in the anniversary year of Lady Margaret’s death.

The contributors are Professor George Pattison, Professor Sue Powell, Professor Vincent Gillespie and LMHA President Mrs Mary Haynes. Their essays describe Lady Margaret’s contribution to scholarship and learning, her religious devotion and educational philanthropy, and her role in securing the Tudor dynasty. Commissioned especially for the publication is also a special investigation into portraiture of this important historical figure.

The Principal Dr Frances Lannon writes, ‘They offer both a fuller understanding of Lady Margaret in the context of her own time, and stimulating reflections about her influence on later generations through to today.’

‘I hope you will find this publication interesting and informative.’
