Professor Stroumsa knighted in France

Professor Guy Stroumsa, Professor of the Study of the Abrahamic Religions and Fellow of Lady Margaret Hall, has been awarded one of France’s honorary titles by President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Professor Stroumsa has been made a Chevalier dans l'Ordre du Mérite in recognition of his services to scholarship. He received the medal from Frederic Desagneaux, the French Consul General in Jerusalem, on January 12, 2012.

The National Order of Merite was founded in 1963 by President Charles de Gaulle to reward French and foreign nationals for distinguished achievements. It is one of France’s most prestigious awards.
