Michael Gove (1985 English) has been appointed Education Secretary in the new Conservative/Liberal Democrat government.
A journalist and broadcaster in the years after LMH, Michael Gove was elected to the Commons in 2005 for the Surrey Heath constituency, and became the party’s spokesman, first on housing and then on Children, Schools and Families. He increased his majority at the 2010 election. Following the election he said that he was prepared to give up a post in the new Cabinet to ensure the deal with the Lib Dems went ahead, but he has retained the education brief in government.
We congratulate Mr Gove and the other LMH winning candidates.
