LMH welcomes three Visiting Fellows

13 January 2012

Santander-Alcalá Visiting Fellow:
Professor Alberto Lázaro, Professor of English, University of Alcalá, Madrid.

Professor Lázaro will spend Hilary term at LMH working on a critical edition of the book Reporter in Spain by Claud Cockburn (1936), a British writer and journalist who was in Spain during the Spanish Civil War.  The book is now out of print, and there is no Spanish translation. The library resources both at the Bodleian and LMH are ideal for Professor Lázaro to access newspaper articles and other writings by Claud Cockburn, and the critical works on his writings.

Beaufort Visiting Fellows:
Professor John Francis, Professor of Political Science, University of Utah.
Professor Leslie Francis, Distinguished Professor of Philosophy and Law, University of Utah.

Professors John and Leslie Francis will be at LMH for two terms from January 2012.  John Francis will work on a joint research project with Gillian Peele, LMH Tutor in Politics.  The project will look at the philosophical and ideological changes which have occurred in British Conservatism since the Thatcher years, focussing on key ethical and political issues including welfare, the environment and human rights.  Leslie Francis will be continuing her research into legal and ethical issues in medicine and health policy.
