What our students say

My time at LMH has been enormously enjoyable and stimulating. I first joined the College in 1998, and have seen it go through many positive changes since then. Two huge improvements that come to mind are Pipe Partridge and the quality of the food in Hall! Certain things have not changed, however. I feel that LMH is one of the most welcoming colleges in Oxford, and its warm, relaxed atmosphere makes it a real pleasure to come back to.

I loved singing in the Chapel Choir, and was lucky to be able to take part in memorable choir trips to Paris and Rome. My College Tutor was always very friendly and helpful, and her insightful advice greatly improved my thesis. Outside LMH, I had a lot of fun playing with the University Jazz Orchestra. I made several friends-for-life during my time at LMH but, most importantly,
I met my wife Dyane when we were neighbours in Fyfield Road.

Although I am happy and proud to have completed my studies, a part of me is sad that I will no longer have the chance to spend my days in the uniquely beautiful grounds of LMH.

Antonio Fortin, DPhil in General Linguistics and Comparative Philology

Lady Margaret Hall is home… and this is quite a statement coming from an Argentine-born Spaniard who spent a good proportion of her adult life in France and in England and lives outside college! My journalistic profession brought me to Oxford over a decade ago (I am a Thomson-Reuters Fellow) and since then I also completed my undergraduate studies in history in another Oxford college. But nowhere I felt as welcome as at LMH.

It is impossible to feel an outsider here – and this is not merely because of the cosmopolitan nature of the College membership. Recently I was awarded a scholarship that, if I would have accepted, it would have entailed my transfer to another college. But how could I abandon such a friendly and intellectually stimulating community as LMH? No way. Time has not yet arrived for leaving home...
